dc.description.abstract |
Purpose: During the Eurovision 2020 presentation at the 2009 Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Biennial Convention, European members identified challenges to global acceptance of STTI. Cost of joining the organization and attendance at STTI events were identified as significant challenges to full engagement within the society. Region 15 chose to address these challenges through the development of a Global Initiative Committee. In order to meet the goal of enhancing membership and involvement, the committee agreed to conduct a fundraising campaign through the STTI foundation.

Methods: The Global Initiative Committee included members throughout Region 15, including members from the European Consortium. To facilitate fundraising, a letter was mailed to each chapter in the region (n = 33) soliciting a suggested $100 donation (or other amount not less than $68). The letter was sent prior to the September disbursement checks, allowing for an automatic deduction to enhance participation.

Results: Initial response from the appeal resulted in a total of $1,568 from 11 chapters in the region. Due to this encouraging initial response, the deadline was extended for three months to elicit more funds. The total raised was $2500 from 13 chapters within Region 15, reflecting a 40% response rate. The funds that were raised will support several $500 leadership education grants for members outside the U.S. to attend the Leadership Summit in Europe, the Research Congress in Mexico, or Biennial Convention. In addition, the remaining funds will be used for membership subsidies for global members within the region.

Conclusion: The STTI Call to Action set forth by President Karen Morin for this biennial served as a foundation for enhancing global membership and involvement of members in the global community. This initiative may serve as a model for other regions seeking methods in which to address the call to action.
| en |
