The Asian women's health research network: A showcase of studies by the Korean side

Abstract

<p>Session presented on Friday, July 25, 2014:</p> <p>In order to promote international collaborative research efforts among researchers who are working on Asian women's health, the Asian Women's Health Research Network (ASIA-WH) was first initiated in 2007 by researchers in three countries including the U.S., South Korea, and Taiwan. Since its initiation, the network has provided a global communication channel among researchers in the three countries, and has been later extended to include Japan. Now, researchers from four Asian countries are collaborating in multiple ways of research efforts (e.g., publications, grant writing and submission, cross-cultural pilot studies, planning a research conference, etc.). Through this symposium, we want to showcase the current studies conducted by members of the network and to provide future directions for collaborative research among nurses across the globe. This symposium entitled 'the Asian Women's Health Research Network: A Showcase of Studies by the Korean Side' will be a showcase of three studies by the members from the Korean side. The first study explored one of the most recent health concerns of adult women in South Korea, which is the impact of shift work schedule change on women's health. The second study examined a continuing health concern in midlife women in South Korea, midlife depression. The third study was about geriatric depression in elderly women, which has been recently spotlighted with an increasing number of geriatric suicides in South Korea. The presenters were chosen among the current members of the Korean side of the ASIA-WH who have recently completed their studies on health/illness experience of Korean women. Each presentation provides future directions for global collaborative research among nurses. We expect this symposium to provide an example of global collaboration through research efforts and to provide directions for future collaborative research among nurses across the globe.</p>
