<p>Mentoring is an essential component of a doctoral student’s success. Relationships develop, where both the mentor and the mentee experience professional growth.</p> <p>The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between 1) mentors’ skills performance (maintaining effective communication, aligning expectations, assessing understanding, addressing diversity, fostering independence, promoting professional development) and the number of times First examination was presented; 2) between mentors’ skills performance and time to Second Examination (Defense of Oral Proposal); 3) between ideal mentor attributes (integrity, guidance and relationship) perceived by graduates and time to degree; and 4) additionally, to compare the perception of ideal mentor attributes among mentees from first, second, third year students and alumni.</p>
